Creative Arts — About local people — With local people — For local people
Hello I'm Kayleigh Laverick; I started the school after I moved back to Durham from London, where I trained and worked for a number of years as an actor, singer, choreographer and dancer. I am a highly motivated and dedicated individual who thrives on pressure, hard work and responsibility.
I worked and gained a lot of knowledge and experience, which enhances not only my performance skills but also my communication and organisation skills, working with diverse people within the community in a positive way and pushing them and myself to achieve something more and unique.
Pippa began her studies at Dartington College of Arts in Devon. She went on to win a Lilian Baylis award to study on ‘The Knack’ at English National Opera’s Baylis Programme in London. There she studied under the guidance of creative director/mezzo-soprano Mary King. Rufus Norris, who is now Director of the National Theatre, was the acting coach.
Furthering her experience, she was accepted onto the professional acting training programme entitled, 'Company Course' at The Academy Drama School, London.
Still searching for a vocal technique that suited her, Pippa was inspired by John Pryce-Jones, founder Chorus Master at Opera North and conductor of Northern Ballet Theatre Orchestra. It was under John's tuition that her journey into voice research and vocal pedagogy began.
She now has a very busy private studio in Sedgefield, working with people who depend on their voice every day. Clients include professional singers, teachers and public speakers. She also works as a 1:1 Performance Tutor on the music degree programme at Newcastle University and teaches singing on the FdA Roots and Popular Music Programme and the Level 3 Music courses at New College Durham.
Pippa has worked on many varied projects including leading masterclasses on Recital Presentation, Vocal Health and Body Language for Singers. She has been the Voice Coach for The Think: Light Platform theatre company, working on productions such as: Shakespeare's Yorkshire & Christmas with Will. She will be working with them again in July 2016 on their most recent project Return to the Abbey.
